Laurie Carr Scholarship Program
Applications accepted through May 2, 2018 

South Portland Housing Authority awards up to $2,000 each year in scholarships through the Laurie Carr scholarship program, at the determination of the SPHA board. Applicants must be a resident of a South Portland Housing Authority (SPHA) owned or managed property, or a recipient of an HCV voucher under the jurisdiction of the SPHA. Applicants must also be currently attending or planning to attend a certification, license, or degree earning program

Submissions include:

  1. Completed application, download:  Laurie Carr Scholarship 2018 App
  2. Verification of acceptance into a certification, license, or degree earning program, or information provided as to where you are in the process of application and acceptance.
  3. A typed Essay of minimum 250 words – topic is “Why This Training/Education, Why Now?” Applicant may provide a sample of their personal work as an alternate submission in lieu of essay or in addition to a shorter essay. Written personal work
    submitted should address the topic.
  4. Two letters of recommendation from non-relatives.

Submit your application by mail, postmarked no later than May 2, 2018 or bring to the Authority office located at 100 Waterman Drive, South Portland by May 2, 2018 at 4:00 pm.  

 

PHADA Scholarship Program
NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS.
THE 2018 APPLICATION DEADLINE WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE FALL OF 2017.

The Public housing Authorities Directors Association (PHADA) offers a scholarship program for graduating seniors who are preparing to enter college. PHADA will award three (3) scholarships to deserving youth currently residing in a PHADA member agency. South Portland Housing Authority Public Housing residents and Section 8 participants are eligible to apply. Scholarships include the Stephen J. Bollinger Memorial Scholarship ($7,000), Freedom and Civil Rights Scholarship ($5,000), and SACS Software/Scott Accounting & Computer Services, Inc. Scholarship ($5,000).
