South Portland Housing Authority (SPHA) owns and/or manages over 600 units of housing scattered throughout the City of South Portland.
Three hundred forty-six of these units, known traditionally as public housing, are for low-income elderly, handicapped or disabled persons 18 years of age and over, and for those who qualify as a family. All persons living in one of these units must meet the requirements established by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Residents of SPHA pay 30% of their income for rent.
1700 Broadway (also known as St. Cyr Court or Broadway West) is comprised of 100 one-bedroom units. These units are for elderly and handicapped or disabled persons.
425 Broadway (also known as Hazard Towers or Broadway East) has 100 units of efficiency, one and two-bedroom apartments. This property is located adjacent to Mill Cove Apartments in the Mill Creek area of the city and is for elderly and handicapped or disabled persons.
Landry Village has 50 units of one and two-bedroom apartments. This property is located in the Thornton Heights section of the city and is for elderly and handicapped or disabled persons.
1700 Broadway and Landry Village have some handicapped-accessible units.
In addition to these three main properties, the South Portland Housing Authority has 96 units of family housing consisting of two, three and four-bedroom apartments located throughout the city.
