SECTION 8 HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program was established to assist persons (elderly, handicapped or disabled and families) qualifying under HUD’s very low- income limits to live in the private market. Persons who qualify under this program pay 30% of their income to a private landlord for rent, and the Housing Authority pays the difference. The apartments must pass Housing Authority inspections and meet certain guidelines for the amount of rent that can be charged.
